What everyone needs, Tiffany! Understanding how to be the boss of their life.

We were blessed to have my mom share our home for the last twenty years of her life, and I became her healthcare advocate.

Please understand. My Mama Peggy was a badass who was a git-er-done gal, but the healthcare took her for granted the last ten years of her long life.

Even though she was hard of hearing, she was an athlete who had gotten older.

I kept thinking that every elder needed someone to stand up for them. How can they do it alone?

Thank you so much for sharing Donna! I see people being taken for granted and sort of pushed around the system all day every day. Helping patients become better consumers of healthcare has become my life's purpose! I don't think people can do it alone, but we can certainly work together and make it happen!

People must learn to stand up for themselves, Tiffany. I'd delighted you are making that your mission

I think red flags are everywhere in medicine clinical ones and nonclinical ones! My hope is to point them out! Glad to have you!

Can't wait to hear more of what you have to say. I just got off the phone with a friend who is "a mess" and full of anxiety and tumbling over his words because he doesn't know how to help his mother. She can't see her primary care for a month. Her blood pressure keeps spiking. The emergency room folks justs tell her to go see her primary care. He's stuck in the loop. He's told the only way to get out of that round room is to pee in the corner. No win situation. That's just one of many many stories. I don't know how to help. You seem to hold out hope for systemic change. That's what is called for. You GO Girl!!!

ALL OF THIS VALERIE!!!! I’m so sorry that this is happening and unfortunately this is NOT uncommon. This is exactly the type of problem that I’m trying to help by putting out this information. Thank you for your support and for sharing this story!

Brilliant and honest take Tiffany. Poverty impacts so many health and life outcomes. Education got me out of mine, as a child of poor immigrants but we luckily had the NHS here in the UK. For all its failings, it was there for us

I hear you Sabrina! My best friend is also from the UK and feels the same way about NHS and the gift of having at least a baseline level of health. It’s not so easy to turn the US healthcare system around but I’m willing to do everything I can to give patients a boost! Thank you for commenting!
